KSHA

Today’s post is brought to you by our own Doug Keefe. He shares his thoughts on the new year being a time of renewal… 😉

“The mission of the Kentucky Speech-Language-Hearing Association (KSHA) is to enhance the provision of quality services to persons with communication disorders and their families. KSHA accomplishes this by providing broad-based education opportunities, public awareness and policy development initiatives and by supporting professionals in speech-language pathology and audiology by promoting the highest standards for service providers.”

KSHA serves as the professional organization for speech-language pathologists and audiologists throughout the state. While many people think of “KSHA” as synonymous with “convention” the organization does much more than just professional development and is active throughout the year. KSHA serves to advocate for all of its 1500+ members. With the services of a professional lobbyist and our own political action committee, KSHA serves as our voice in Frankfort and helps to advance a legislative agenda to protect and promote our profession. KSHA maintains representatives in ASHA committee positions so that we can benefit from the strength of our national organization and stay abreast of the latest developments in all aspects of our disciplines.

In terms of professional development, KSHA continues to put on one of the best state conferences in the country. With a high percentage of our membership attending each year, our convention continues to draw excellent speakers to help our members keep up with the latest information, research and therapy techniques and is a cost-effective way to obtain all the continuing education you need to maintain your licensure and ASHA CCCs. This year, the KSHA convention will be held in Louisville on February 25-28 and by becoming a member you can save $130 on convention registration fees.

Personally, I have found that by getting involved with KSHA, I have become more engaged with our profession and have been able to utilize their resources to help move toward making positive changes that will hopefully help all school-based SLPs.

KSHA is a member-driven, volunteer organization. If you are already a member, Thank You. I hope that you accept the challenge to become more involved in the activities that shape our profession. If you are not already a member, you can sign up online at http://www.ksha.info, I would welcome the opportunity to answer any questions about the benefits of becoming a member
